Established in 2002, SPBA is an award jointly organized by the Association of Small & Medium Enterprises (ASME) and Lianhe Zaobao. Marking its 18th year, the SPBA (“the Award”) has become an esteemed emblem of success that is recognized by the government, businesses, academic institutions, and the media. The Award has recognized and honored more than 450 Singaporean brands that have been effectively developed and managed through various branding initiatives.
This year, SPBA has introduced the Award to the Chinese market in hopes of providing a solid and dynamic platform for recognizing brands that have done well in China. By leveraging the prestige of the Award, SPBA hopes that brands in both the Chinese and Singapore markets can share relevant market expertise. SPBA also look forward to cementing strong friendships between the business communities in both countries.
Mr. Goh Sin Teck, Chief Editor of Lianhe Zaobao, said, “We are excited and honored to be able to select esteemed brands in the vibrant Chinese market for our award. Launching the China Top 10 Leading Brands Award and the Prestige Brand Award, reminiscent of Singapore’s SPBA launch 18 years ago, we seek to provide a platform for all brands that believe in devoting themselves to building the intangible assets of their enterprise, acknowledging their brand strategies, implementation, and efforts behind their success. Moreover, we also want to witness a difference. Brand leaders in the field and in the market can get together to exchange ideas and observe each other. Finally, we hope to consolidate the friendly relations between China and Singapore in this process and to create more opportunities for cooperation.
Speaking about how branding can help brands succeed, Mr. Kurt Wee, President of the Association of Small & Medium Enterprises, said “Enterprises must be able to set clear market positioning, differentiate themselves from competitors, and become the first choice for consumers. It is very important for businesses to provide a unique brand experience and be able to establish a meaningful connection with customers. In the global economy, powerful brands can transcend geographical boundaries and win the hearts of consumers at home and abroad.”
According to Mr. Peter Lim, Regional General Manager of China of BreadTalk, during the interview, BreadTalk has been operating in China for 16 years, and has stores in more than 30 cities including Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Guangzhou. He said “BreadTalk will be celebrating its 20th anniversary next year. Winning the award at this point in time is a great recognition and helps the brand to go further in the future.”
Ms. Yang Xi Bei, Director, Communication & Branding Center of Haidilao, said, “We are honored to be named one of SPBA’s China Top 10 Leading Brands. The award is a recognition of our 25 years of brand management, reflecting the international market recognition of Haidilao, and the great potential for the internationalization of Chinese cuisine. We will use the encouragement of this award and also the trust of our customers to continue strong operations, and create an enjoyable hotpot experience for our customers.”
Ms. Wendy Min, Director of International Affairs of Ctrip Group, pointed out that “more than 60 percent of Chinese tourists choose Southeast Asia as their destination. As such, Singapore and Southeast Asia are an important market for Ctrip. Lianhe Zaobao is an influential and authoritative media in Singapore. The SPBA was awarded to Chinese companies for the first time this year, and Ctrip is honored to be recognized as one of the top 10 leading brands in China.”
